SSA teachers’ to continue strike as demand for 100% salary increase remains unmet: AMSSASTA

HEADLINES

The Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers, under the banner of the All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers’ Association (AMSSASTA), have decided to continue their strike at Malki Ground until the government addresses their demand for a 100% salary increase.

The teachers’ strike has now entered its 16th day, aimed at pressuring the government to meet their demand for a significant salary hike. Despite the ongoing protest, AMSSASTA leaders have also engaged in talks with officials from the state education department, including Education Minister Rakkam A. Sangma, to put pressure on the government for action.

AMSSASTA Vice President, Defender S. Lamare, stated that during the meeting, the Minister informed them that the government has taken steps toward addressing their demand. However, the matter has been referred to the Education Commission and the government is awaiting the Commission’s report before taking further action.

Lamare added that while the government has begun considering their demand, the teachers’ association hopes the process will be expedited as soon as possible so the teachers can return to the classroom and resume with their teaching duties.
