Shillong, Oct 15: East Shillong MLA, Smti. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, has expressed deep shock and dismay over the sexual harassment incident that occurred on the main road of Laitumkhrah, terming it a shameful act that violates the peace and dignity of the community.
Ampareen, who represents the constituency, said she was appalled to learn of such an incident taking place in a locality known for its vigilant Dorbar Shnong, women’s groups, and strong community values. “As a representative and a resident, I am deeply disturbed that such behaviour can occur in a place like Laitumkhrah,” she said.
The MLA said she immediately contacted the Officer-in-Charge of Laitumkhrah Police Station and also reached out to the Superintendent of Police, who assured her that the matter is being taken seriously and that an investigation is underway.
Ampareen urged law enforcement to ensure that all available evidence is properly examined and that justice is swiftly served. “All necessary proof is in place — yet we must ask why such acts continue to occur, disturbing the peace and security of our city,” she added.
Condemning the act, she said the time has come to impose strict punishment under the law to deter such incidents in the future.
