The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has entrusted Naba Bhattacharjee, President of the Meghalaya Cricket Association, with the role of manager for India’s Senior Women’s Cricket Team. The team will travel to Australia next month for a three-match ODI series as part of the 2022-2025 ICC Women’s Championship.
The Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain, will depart from Mumbai on November 30, heading to Brisbane for the first two ODIs on December 5 and 8 at Allan Border Field. The third match is scheduled for December 11 at Perth’s renowned WACA Ground.
Naba Bhattacharjee, a dedicated promoter of cricket in Meghalaya, has been instrumental in developing the sport in the state. Since 2016, he has served on the BCCI’s New Area Development Programme (NADP) Committee, contributing significantly to cricket’s growth in the Northeast.
He was also part of the seven-member BCCI Committee alongside noted figures like Amit Shah, Rajeev Shukla, and Sourav Ganguly. In 2017, Bhattacharjee played a pivotal role in securing Meghalaya’s full membership in the BCCI, along with five other Northeastern states, following the recommendations of the Justice RM Lodha Committee.
His past contributions include overseeing India’s matches against West Indies in Florida in 2016, aimed at promoting cricket in the USA. Bhattacharjee’s extensive experience and dedication are expected to be valuable as he takes on this prestigious role with the women’s team.
