Today, Mawlai MLA Brightstarwell Marbaniang and Shillong MP Dr. Ricky Andrew J Syngkon inspected the ongoing construction of the Lummawsing-Mawsiatkhnam road, a project under the central PMGSY scheme, valued at ₹6.85 crore. Accompanied by the PMGSY Chief Engineer and local village leaders, they reviewed the work, which is approximately 75% complete but faces quality concerns.
MLA Marbaniang urged engineers to ensure adherence to standards, especially as the road has seen increased use since the Damsite bridge closure. He noted that heavy, overloaded vehicles have worsened the road’s condition and proposed discussing weight restrictions with the government once construction is complete.
Though the road was expected to be finished within a year, heavy rains have delayed completion by a month or two. MP Syngkon stressed the importance of maintaining quality in alignment with the central scheme’s requirements.
