Harrowing details have emerged in the case of a woman allegedly set on fire by her husband in Niriang village, West Jaintia Hills. The victim, currently receiving treatment at Civil Hospital, Shillong, has revealed that her husband, Dahun Dkhar, first poured hot fish oil over her body before dousing her with kerosene and setting her ablaze.
The incident came to light after the woman returned to the hospital for further treatment. National Commission for Women (NCW) member Delina Khongdup, who visited the victim, confirmed the gruesome account provided by the victim’s family. Khongdup stated that the NCW will ensure the perpetrator is held accountable and punished under the law.
According to Dr. C. Wanniang, the victim sustained 45% burns, including severe injuries to her head, face, arms, and torso. She was first admitted to the hospital on October 7, brought in by her husband, who claimed it was an accident. However, she left the hospital prematurely, refusing further treatment and returning to her village.
The woman sought medical help again after her condition worsened, prompting authorities to uncover the truth behind her injuries. Doctors are now working to stabilize her health as she begins to recover.
The case has sparked outrage, with calls for stringent action against the accused and a thorough investigation into the incident.
