Shillong: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has predicted a significant political transformation in Meghalaya before the 2028 Assembly elections, stating that the state will witness a “new political equation” in the coming years.
Speaking to reporters, Dr Sangma said nearly 80 percent of Meghalaya’s citizens are thinking about the state’s future and seeking positive change. He asserted that 2028 is not far away and that people will soon see a fresh political development taking shape.
Dr Sangma, who left the Congress to join the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), said speculation about his possible return to Congress or shift to the BJP was unfounded. He firmly ruled out rejoining Congress under any circumstances and also dismissed rumours of joining the BJP.
Responding to queries on the upcoming elections to the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), he hinted that the TMC would spring a surprise but declined to reveal details about the party’s preparations. “People will see when the time comes,” he said.
Dr Sangma expressed confidence that political developments before 2028 would reshape the state’s political landscape.
