Luckymerry Lyngdoh: Pioneering Female Referee in Shillong’s Football Scene

HEADLINES

Shillong: In a state where football is cherished, the role of referees is crucial to ensuring fair play. Among the emerging referees in Meghalaya is Luckymerry Lyngdoh, a young woman from Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District, who has made her mark by officiating matches under the Shillong Sports Association (SSA). Recently, she was the referee for the final of the SRGT Third Division Football League, a testament to her growing reputation.

Luckymerry started her journey in football as a player, representing her state until 2012. In 2019, she transitioned to refereeing after attending a seminar organized by the Mawkyrwat District Sports Association. Since joining the Shillong Referee’s Society (SRS), she has thrived, gaining valuable experience and honing her skills.

Inspired by fellow referee Merilyn Tongwah, Luckymerry initially aimed to be an assistant referee but soon found herself drawn to the middle referee role, where she continues to grow. She now aspires to take the National Referee Exam, determined to progress in her refereeing career despite challenges along the way.

Luckymerry remains focused on improving her skills and contributing to the game she loves, encouraged by her passion and the support of her peers.
