The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Fishery Department generated only ₹2,000 from its four fish ponds in Lailad, Ri-Bhoi, in 2017, despite having 10 employees assigned to the department.
This was revealed by Executive Member (EM) Isynei Hinge during a session of the Council while responding to a query raised by Nongpoh MDC Rona Khymdeit.
Hinge informed the House that in 2018, revenue increased slightly to ₹7,500, but the earnings remained disproportionately low considering the manpower involved.
He further stated that of the 10 department employees, eight are stationed in Lailad, where they are incharge of four ponds, a staff quarter and a farm.
