SHILLONG, January 27: The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the name of Prof.Badaplin War as one of the honorary recipients of the Padma Shri Award, one of the highest civilian awards in the country to be awarded by the President of India.
Speaking with the Professor who is also the Treasurer of the Khasi Author’s Society, she expressed happiness at the recognition received for her contribution to culture and literature, and also spoke of her journey which led her to the recognition and honour to be conferred by the President of India.
Prof.Badaplin War said that the KAS in its effort to promote the inclusion of the Khasi language in the Eighth Schedule has published two Khasi journals, “Thiar ki Nongthoh” and “Ka Syngkhong Jingtip”.
She said that the KAS through the financial help from the State Government has started to collate all words in the Khasi language to publish an elaborate and broad dictionary which will be called as “Ka Khasi-Khasi” dictionary which will also include corresponding words in English and at the same time will also include a phonetic transcription so that even non-khasi speakers can correctly pronounce the Khasi words.
Prof.War who is also the Supervisor for the publication of this dictionary has expressed hope to complete the vast task and also expressed hope that this dictionary will be instrumental in helping to codify the khasi words, the pronunciation and also the meanings of the words and the aim is to have it available as an online dictionary.
