Shillong/Mumbai: Justice Revati Mohite Dere, senior judge of the Bombay High Court, has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court. She will take charge following the transfer of Justice Soumen Sen to the Kerala High Court after the retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Nitin Madhukar Jamdar, who demits office on January 9.
The transfer of Justice Sen was notified by the Centre on Thursday, acting on a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium at its meeting on December 18, 2025. Justice Dere is currently the second senior-most judge of the Bombay High Court. Her appointment was confirmed by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on X.
Born in Pune, Justice Dere obtained her law degree from Symbiosis Law College and went on to practise extensively before the Bombay High Court, also serving as a prosecutor for the Maharashtra government. She was elevated as an additional judge of the Bombay High Court in 2013 and became a permanent judge in 2016.
Her elevation marks another significant judicial appointment in the Northeast as Meghalaya prepares to welcome its new Chief Justice.
