Shillong, August 16: Meghalaya along with the rest of the country celebrated the 76th Independence Day on the 15th of August, 2022 which is 75 years of freedom from British rule.
The Independence Day celebration was held all over the State with the Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma taking part in the celebration held at Polo Ground, East Khasi Hills District in which he was the Chief Guest who hoisted the tricolour and also received the Rashtriya Salute. On this day there were 22 contingents who took part in the Parade including soldiers, police and school students.
On this day the Chief Minister released a Special Cover, “75 Years of India’s Independence”, with the Chief Post Master General, NE Circle, Subrata Das being present. On this day prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Locality Beautification competition and the first prize was won by Dorbar Shnong Nongrim Hills, the second prize was won by Dorbar Shnong Mawlai Iewryghep and the third prize was won by Jail Road Welfare Committee, besides other prizes which were part of the People’s Choice Best Locality Award.
In the March Pass parade, the first prize was won by St.Mary’s Higher Secondary School, the second prize was won by Nongrah Presbyterian Secondary School while the third prize was won by Seven Set Higher Secondary School.
Speaking on this day the Chief Minister, Conrad K.Sangma expressed that the Government in the past 4 and a half years had taken many steps and decisions for the benefit and welfare of the citizens, and said that whatever the Government had done, it had done so by making the citizens a priority. He also pointed out that the Government had taken the border resolution with Assam as a priority issue to complete and also expressed hope that the second phase can be completed soon too.
At the same time the Chief Minister also spoke about the works that the Government has done in the past 4 and a half years, right from developmental projects and others. Sangma extended his gratitude to the Central Government for its support to the peace talks with the HNLC.
The Chief Minister said that law and order prevails in the State, and expressed happiness that the peace talks free from conditions could finally be agreed upon with the HNLC.
