‘I worked till 2 AM when I was CM’: Mukul questions Christmas holidays

HEADLINES

Shillong: Former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma on Saturday questioned the Meghalaya government’s decision to declare holidays on December 22 and 23, 2025, alleging that the move reflects the State’s poor financial health.

Speaking to reporters, the TMC MLA claimed that the government had no funds and was therefore resorting to extended holidays. He contrasted the present situation with his own tenure as Chief Minister, stating that he often worked late into the night—sometimes till 1 or 2 am to ensure that official work was completed.

Dr. Mukul further remarked that it has become an unfortunate precedent in Meghalaya for government offices to remain closed for two to three days during the Christmas week a practice he said sends the wrong message about governance and administrative seriousness.
