Shillong: HYC leader Bah Roy Kupar Synrem appeared at Sardar Police Station on Thursday in connection with a suo motu FIR lodged against him by Lumdiengjri Police Station.
Speaking to the media after his appearance, Synrem said he was summoned following an FIR registered on the 14th of this month, based on a complaint regarding remarks he made during a public meeting organized by the Coordination Committee of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) on March 11.
According to the FIR, his statements were circulated on social media, and one particular remark was viewed by authorities as potentially inciting communal disharmony within the state and across India.
A second allegation in the FIR claims that he stated if the Garo community required support, the Hynniewtrep people and their organization would stand with them, even to the extent of taking up arms.
Synrem clarified that the case was registered suo motu by the police and not based on any individual complaint.
