The Hills State People Democratic Party (HSPDP), Meghalaya’s oldest political party, commemorated the ninth death anniversary of its founder, Hoping Stone Lyngdoh, at Mawkyllei, Eastern West Khasi Hills. Party leaders, including President K. Plasting Pangngiang, General Secretary Panbor Ryntathiang, MLA Methodius Dkhar, and Women Wing President Badariti L. Nonglait, along with members of the HYC, gathered to honor the legacy of this iconic leader.
In their speeches, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to Hoping Stone’s vision and vowed to continue advocating for key issues, including resolving the Meghalaya-Assam boundary dispute, opposing uranium mining, and pushing for the creation of a separate Khasi-Jaintia State.
President Pangngiang expressed disappointment that despite the party producing many MLAs, some have moved on after winning. He noted that over 50 years, 40 MLAs have been elected under the HSPDP banner. The event also included speeches from other leaders, such as MLA Methodius and HYC President Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh.
The HSPDP Youth Wing also paid tribute by laying flowers at Hoping Stone’s memorial at Lum Mawthadraishan.
