HANM Forms Monitoring Committee to Pursue Key Demands, Plans Protest in Delhi on February 25

HEADLINES

In a move to intensify its demands, the Hynñiewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has constituted a Monitoring Committee to oversee its key issues, including the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), recognition of Khasi language under the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, and resolution of the Meghalaya-Assam border dispute. The committee will be chaired by HANM President Bah Lamphrang Kharbani, with Bah Gabriel Sohlang as Secretary.

The decision was taken during an Executive Committee meeting held on February 22, 2025, at the HANM office in Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong. The committee will also spearhead the upcoming protest in New Delhi on February 25 at Jantar Mantar, aiming to remind the central government of Meghalaya’s long-pending demands.

Speaking to reporters, Bah Lamphrang Kharbani and Bah Gabriel Sohlang confirmed that a delegation of HANM members will leave for Delhi on Sunday and Monday. They urged the public to extend their support and prayers for the movement, which they believe is crucial for the state’s interests. Before their departure, the organization held a special prayer service led by Vice President Bah Venus Rangslang.
