The city police on Tuesday arrested four individuals, including two members of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Movement (HNYM), for allegedly extorting money from a man (whose identity has been hidden by police) in Madanrting, Shillong.
The suspects have been identified as Garnett Gedian Khongwir (30) Kyrshanbor Lyngdoh (38) both members of HNYM, Thounaujam David Singh and Narendra Kabrambam (29).
According to the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, the incident began on August 8 when the complainant received a call demanding ₹10 lakh. The caller continued to pressure the victim to pay the amount. When the demands were not met, the suspect, along with two others, forcibly entered the complainant’s home on August 20 at around 7 PM. They threatened the complainant’s daughter, as the victim was not present at the time.
The complainant filed a report at the Madanrting police station on August 24, leading to an investigation that resulted in the arrest of the four individuals involved on Tuesday, September 17.
