Mawkyrwat, June 22: The farmers of Mawkyrwat,South West Khasi Hills District are distressed with the challenges ahead of them due to the forces of nature which destroyed their paddy fields in almost all parts of Shiliang Um area and in Mawkyrwat which have now been turned into ponds and small lakes due to the flash floods in the past few days with some of having potholes now which have led the farmers to lose all hope.
One elder woman while speaking with media persons tearfully expressed her sorrow while appealing the government authorities through the respective departments incharge of agriculture to kindly create means on how to help them on any part as far as they can so that they will face problems in providing for their family wit food and other necessities in the coming years because as it is evident in this year there seems no possible way for them to repair and cultivate on their paddy field and with no hope left on what to do next as a result of these incidents which destroyed their paddy fields.
