The Dorbar Shnong of Mawsynram has firmly reiterated its stance against allowing religious worship inside the Krem Mawjymbuin cave, clarifying that the cave will remain accessible only for tourism purposes.
On Friday, January 3, the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills convened a meeting of the committee, as directed by the Meghalaya High Court, to address issues surrounding the cave.
Speaking after the meeting, Assistant Rangbah Shnong Bah Hiamdor Rapsang stated that while the Dorbar Shnong welcomes visitors to the cave for sightseeing, it does not permit the site to be used for religious worship.
The meeting was also attended by the Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP), a Hindu organization from Assam, which had previously raised concerns about access to the cave.
The Dorbar Shnong expressed dissatisfaction with the involvement of the KSP, terming it as unnecessary interference. However, after discussions led by the Deputy Commissioner, the KSP agreed to participate in the meeting constructively.
The Dorbar Shnong has maintained that Krem Mawjymbuin will remain a tourist site, with no provisions for turning it into a place of religious worship.
