SHILLONG, January 18: Conrad Kongkal Sangma has again been elected as the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) for the period of 2022-25. Sangma was elected again as the chief of the party unopposed.
The election for the President of the party was publicly announced by the Returning Officer who is also the National Spokesperson of the NPP, Abhaya Kashyap and President of the NPP, Meghalaya,Dr.W.R Kharlukhi at the party office.
The NPP has renewed the party office bearers for three vacant positions which include, the President, General Secretary and Secretary. On this day the party also appointed Thomas Sangma again as National General Secretary, while the post of Treasurer was left vacant with no takers.
On being asked about the appointment of Thomas Sangma as General Secretary even after the rape allegation charged against him, Abhaya Kashyap touted that the charge is only an unproven allegation and under trial in the court of law, and the leaders of the NPP have stated that until proven guilty, action cannot be taken against any person.
