Commission Calls for NEC Policy Review to Ensure Women’s Safety

The Meghalaya State Commission for Women has urged the North Eastern Council (NEC) to reassess its policies and procedures to ensure women’s safety in the workplace. This call to action comes after a recent allegation that a colleague sexually harassed a young woman working at the NEC.

The Commission strongly condemned the incident and has been actively following up with both the health department and the police to ensure justice is served. The Commission emphasized that this incident is a violation of human rights and has created fear among female employees in their workplaces.

The Commission has pledged to do everything within its power to secure justice for the victim and has urged authorities to expedite the investigation so that the perpetrator is held accountable.

It is noteworthy that the accused, a non-local colleague, has been arrested by the police, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
