Central Grants to Meghalaya Double in a Decade, Says Union Minister Pabitra Margherita

HEADLINES

The financial assistance from the Government of India to Meghalaya has surged significantly over the past decade, according to Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Pabitra Margherita. Speaking to the media during discussions on the Union Budget, Margherita revealed that Meghalaya received ₹19,000 crore in grants between 2004 and 2014, whereas the amount has doubled to ₹40,000 crore from 2014 to 2024.

Similarly, the state’s tax revenue has seen a substantial increase. Meghalaya received ₹7,000 crore in tax devolution during the 2004-2014 period, which has now risen to ₹48,000 crore in the last ten years.

Margherita attributed this growth to the Centre’s commitment to economic development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, aiming to boost Meghalaya’s financial progress as part of India’s overall growth strategy.
