Following a tip-off, the police of Jorabad and Basistha police station Guwahati earlier today set out a search operation and arrested two persons carrying several packets of foreign-made cigarettes.
The two persons were arrested while travelling on a Wagon R car bearing number plate AS 01 AH 4634 en route from Meghalaya to Guwahati.
In this operation led by the Officer in charge, Kapil Pathak, Altaf Ali, and Nirsen Ali involved in illegally transporting these cigarettes were arrested.
These cigarettes are said to have been made in Indonesia and Korea and the estimated cost of these cigarettes is about ₹15 lakhs. The police have filed an FIR and also registered a case while the investigation of the two arrested persons is ongoing.
