Shillong: Alan West has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Meghalaya High Court against the actions of the All Khasi Meghalaya Tourist Taxi Association (AKMTTA), which recently imposed restrictions on tourist vehicles from outside the state.
In his plea, Alan argued that the blockade directly affects Meghalaya’s tourism industry, an important source of livelihood for thousands. He said the AKMTTA’s move has disrupted the state’s growing tourism economy, hurting transporters, hoteliers, guides, and small traders who rely on the inflow of visitors.
The PIL, filed on Wednesday, is expected to come up for hearing on Friday, where the High Court may take up the matter for urgent consideration. Alan expressed hope that the judiciary will intervene to protect the larger public interest and ensure smooth functioning of tourism-related activities.
