The body of 23-year-old Lateilang Ryngnga, who drowned after a tourist boat capsized at Tharia, Wah Rew, on August 19, was recovered by a team of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Friday evening.
The body was spotted by fishermen from Nongjri, who alerted the authorities. An SDRF team subsequently reached the area and recovered the body.
Lateilang, a resident of Sohbar, was ferrying three tourists when the boat overturned at a turbulent stretch of the river around noon.
While the three tourists were wearing safety jackets and were rescued by two other boat operators, Lateilang was not wearing a life jacket and could not be traced following the incident.
His body was later recovered after three days of search efforts.
Following the recovery, the family sought an exemption from the post-mortem examination from the SDO of Sohra Civil Sub-Division. The request was granted, after which the body was handed over to the family for the last rites.
