Centrepoint Group has strongly condemned an alleged incident of trespassing, violence and assault at its upcoming resort project site in Laitkynsew.
According to a statement issued by the group, around 15 youths claiming to belong to Khasi Students’ Union allegedly entered the project site without permission at around 2:45 PM and intimidated workers present at the location.
The company claimed that during the incident, a carpenter identified as Rajkumar Sharma sustained serious head injuries and was later admitted to hospital for treatment.
The group described the incident as a direct attack on lawful employment, business development and the rights of workers. It stated that such incidents could negatively impact Meghalaya’s image, discourage investment and affect tourism and infrastructure growth in the state.
Managing Director Larsing Sawyan said the company has consistently worked towards generating employment and promoting sustainable development in Meghalaya. The statement added that the group currently supports the livelihoods of more than 680 employees across its businesses.
The company urged authorities to take strict action against those responsible and appealed to citizens to condemn violence and support peaceful development in the state.
