Shillong Lajong FC concluded a remarkable 2025–26 Star Cement Indian Football League campaign with a runners-up finish, earning nationwide recognition for competing with an all-Indian squad and one of the youngest teams in the league.
Lajong ended the season on a high with a commanding 3–0 victory over champions Diamond Harbour FC, finishing with 28 points from 14 matches — just one point behind the leaders. Their campaign included eight wins, four draws and only two defeats.
Under head coach Birendra Thapa, the club impressed with its attacking football, strong defensive record and commitment to developing Indian talent. The team also finished with the league’s best goal difference (+16) and the fewest goals conceded.
Among the season’s standout performers was Phrangki Buam, who was named the league’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). He finished as the second-highest scorer with eight goals, while Everbrightson Sana Mylliempdah added seven goals to finish third in the scoring charts.
Club owner Larsing LD Sawyan praised the team for exceeding expectations and reaffirmed plans to strengthen youth development through a football academy focused on long-term excellence. The club also expressed gratitude to Conrad K. Sangma, Wailadmiki Shylla, sponsors and supporters for their continued support.
