The Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills, Mukesh Kumar (IAS), has stated that the public hearing related to Shree Cement Ltd. was suspended to maintain peace and stability in the region amid strong opposition from several groups.
Speaking on the matter, the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) said the public hearing would be conducted again on a later date after proper consultations and in accordance with the provisions of the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) guidelines.
The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the public to remain calm and engage with the concerned authorities through peaceful dialogue if they have any grievances or concerns regarding the project.
