Conrad K. Sangma attended the SSP–COs Conference 2026 at Tura on Thursday, where senior officers of the Meghalaya Police deliberated on operational efficiency, administrative reforms, law and order management, and infrastructure strengthening.
The conference, held at Tree House in West Garo Hills, brought together senior police leadership and field officers to review ongoing initiatives and institutional reforms within the force. Discussions focused on implementing recommendations from the DGsP/IGsP Conference, strengthening internal security mechanisms, and promoting SMART, technology-driven, and citizen-centric policing aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Several presentations were delivered on law and order, complaint management systems, cyber helplines, police citizen services, human resource reforms, anti-narcotics initiatives, and infrastructure development. Meghalaya DGP I. Nongrang and senior police officials highlighted measures aimed at improving accountability, coordination, service delivery, and technology integration within the department.
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized the importance of regular SSP–COs Conferences in improving communication and institutional coordination within the police force. He proposed rotating future conferences across districts such as Jowai and Nongstoin to ensure wider participation and engagement.
The Chief Minister also stressed that policing achievements should be measured through improved public safety, crime reduction, and effective law enforcement rather than infrastructure expansion alone. He highlighted concerns over crimes against women and children, drug-related offences, conviction rates, and grassroots security, while encouraging continuous training and exposure visits for officers to leading policing systems across the country.
The conference concluded with a vote of thanks from senior police officials, reaffirming Meghalaya Police’s commitment to strengthening law and order and modernising policing systems in the state.
