Banteidor Lyngdoh, MLA of Mawkynrew Constituency and former minister, on Wednesday flagged off a vehicle service dedicated to pregnant women and children below five years of age.
The vehicle, introduced under the Chief Minister Safe Mother Scheme (CM-SMS), was launched at Laitkyrhong Sub Centre in the presence of Dr. S. Rymbai of Jongksha PHC, Village elders, ASHA workers, mothers and school students.
The scheme aims to improve maternal and child healthcare by ensuring timely medical support before and during childbirth, especially in remote areas.
Officials highlighted that Meghalaya has reduced maternal deaths by over 53 percent in six years through the CM-SMS initiative, with cases dropping from 244 in 2020-21 to 100 in 2025-26.
