Shillong: The Lympung Weiking at Jaiaw came alive on Friday evening as hundreds of men, women, and children gathered to take part in the opening day of the three-day Shad Suk Mynsiem 2026 celebrations.
As per tradition, the programme began at the Seng Khasi Hall, Mawkhar, where the rhythmic beats of traditional drums set the tone for the festivities.
The event was anchored by Assistant General Secretary of Seng Khasi Kmie, Rgh Duwaki Rangad, while the opening prayer was led by President Rgh O. Pyngrope.
This was followed by a ceremonial procession accompanied by traditional instruments such as the ksing, bom, nakra, and tangmuri, leading participants to the Weiking ground.
Upon arrival, participants performed the customary three ceremonial rounds of the ground, followed by the ritual of nguh ka dem, led by Rgh Donbokstar Kurkalang.
The festival formally commenced after the hoisting of the Seng Khasi flag by Vice President of Sein Raij Shillong, Rgh Belbin Kyndiah, marking the beginning of the traditional dance.
The vibrant celebration reflects the rich cultural heritage and spiritual essence of the Khasi community.
