The State Food Testing Laboratory Meghalaya has strengthened its food and water safety infrastructure with the launch of an Automated Water Analyser and GC-FID (Gas Chromatograph with Flame Ionization Detector) in Shillong.
The equipment was inaugurated by Wailadmiki Shylla, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, in the presence of Sampath Kumar, IAS, and Rosetta M. Kurbah, IAS.
The Automated Water Analyser will enable rapid testing of water quality, while the GC-FID will enhance the lab’s ability to detect organic compounds, including alcohol content and flavour composition.
The launch took place during a technical session themed “Strengthening Food Safety Ecosystem through Science & Awareness,” bringing together policymakers, scientists, and stakeholders.
Officials said the move marks a significant step toward ensuring safer food and drinking water standards across Meghalaya.
