Shillong: The Dorbar Shnong of Mukroh has submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, through Governor C.H. Vijayashankar seeking a CBI probe into the November 22, 2022 incident in which five villagers were killed in Assam Police firing.
The memorandum also urges the Centre to expedite resolution of the Assam–Meghalaya boundary dispute and direct Assam to halt all activities in areas defined as Mukroh under the 1968 JHADC notification.
The Dorbar said villagers continue to face “atrocities and harassment” from Assam Police, forest personnel, and Karbi underground groups due to the unresolved boundary row. It strongly opposed Assam’s claim that nearly half of Mukroh falls under its jurisdiction, calling it a misinterpretation of the 1951 Composite Assam notification.
The memo highlights decades of violence by Karbi underground outfits, including the killing of six villagers by KNV cadres in 2003, extortion demands, forced displacement, and repeated threats that have left residents living in fear.
The Dorbar urged the Government of India to intervene urgently, complete the CBI probe and restore safety and stability for Mukroh’s residents.
