Jowai: In a late-night operation, West Jaintia Hills Police along with the State Anti-Narcotic Task Force intercepted a vehicle (ML05 K 2315) at Phramer after receiving precise intelligence inputs. On searching, police recovered 50 soap boxes containing 512.63 grams of heroin valued at around ₹2.5 crore.
Cash amounting to ₹6,775, 3,000 South Korean Won, 500 Kazakhstan Tenge, 10 Kyat, and two mobile phones were also seized from the two occupants of the vehicle. The arrested persons have been identified as Chuchung Serto of Kangpokpi and Thanggin Towthang of Churachandpur, both from Manipur.
Police said the duo is being interrogated to ascertain their links with larger drug syndicates operating across the Northeast, especially along border areas. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered, and further investigations are underway.
