Shillong: A young Khasi woman from Meghalaya has been severely injured after allegedly falling victim to trafficking in Delhi. She was lured through social media with the promise of a job, but upon arrival in the city, was instead forced into immoral activities.
Taking suo motu cognisance of the case, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has stepped in. NCW member Delina Khongdup on Monday visited the survivor, who is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS, New Delhi, to assess her condition and gather details of the case.
NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has also written to the Delhi Police Commissioner, urging a thorough investigation and immediate arrest of those involved. She further directed that the victim be provided free medical care and assigned a counsellor to aid her recovery.
Meanwhile, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Delhi Unit has extended assistance to the young woman, who was earlier found unconscious and in a critical state. KSU leaders said they are closely following up on the matter.
