HEADLINES

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) expressed its deepest condolences to the global Catholic Church and all Christians following the death of Pope Francis, who passed away at 7:35 AM on April 21. In a statement, Hamas acknowledged Pope Francis’s life of service, highlighting his dedication to humanitarian and religious values.

“Hamas extends its most sincere sympathies to the Catholic Church worldwide and to all Christians on the passing of Pope Francis. He leaves behind a legacy of unwavering commitment to human rights, peace, and interfaith dialogue,” the statement read.

Hamas also praised the Pope’s strong stance against war and his steadfast support for Palestinian rights, particularly his advocacy for the Palestinian people and opposition to acts of genocide.

Basem Naim, a spokesperson for Hamas, described the passing of Pope Francis as a loss to the world. “Today, the world mourns the passing of a prominent global religious figure, His Holiness Pope Francis, who dedicated his papacy to fostering interfaith dialogue and promoting peace across the globe,” Naim stated.

Meanwhile, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his grief over the Pope’s death, referring to him as a “faithful friend” of the Palestinian people. “Today, we lost a faithful friend of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights,” Abbas said, recalling that Pope Francis had recognized the Palestinian state and authorized the Palestinian flag to be raised in the Vatican.
