Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K Sangma, stated that drug searches must be conducted strictly in accordance with the law. His comments came in response to a question on whether the government would inspect vehicles belonging to high-ranking officials, including military and police personnel, as suggested by South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai, recently.
Conrad emphasized that all searches fall under the jurisdiction of the Anti-Narcotic Act and reiterated the government’s strong stance against drugs. He asserted that the state’s primary objective is to completely prevent the entry of drugs into Meghalaya, regardless of the number of users.
Additionally, the Chief Minister noted that the government is more inclined to support organizations that establish rehabilitation centers for drug addicts rather than setting up government-run centers.
