C&RD Minister orders probe into alleged misuse of MLA scheme in Mawsynram

The Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Minister A.T. Mondal has directed the department’s Director to investigate allegations raised by Mawsynram MLA Olan Sing Suiñ regarding the misuse of ₹1.25 crore under the Special Rural Work Program (SRWP), also known as the MLA scheme.

The issue came into light after MLA Suiñ has surfaced the Office Memorandum (OM) and also requesting the Rural Development Department to probe on the allegations and to recover funds allegedly misused by the previous MLA, Himalaya Muktan Shangpliang, through the Block Development Office (BDO) of Mawsynram.

Speaking to reporters, Mondal confirmed receiving a complaint from MLA Suiñ and also has seen the explanation from the former MLA.

The Minister added that if the amount was not fully utilized by the previous MLA, the funds should remain intact, as funds under the MLA scheme are allocated for the benefit of the people and must not be misappropriated.
