Meghalaya Excise Minister Kyrmen Shylla stated that the decision to introduce rail connectivity in the state depends entirely on public acceptance.
Speaking on the matter, Shylla said that while discussions on bringing a railway line to Jaintia Hills are ongoing, the final decision rests with the people. “I will convene a meeting with the public to discuss this issue. It’s not about my personal opinion but about what the public wants,” he said.
The state government has proposed the rail line to improve transportation and connectivity for residents. However, Shylla emphasized the need for dialogue with various community groups to address concerns and evaluate the potential benefits and drawbacks of the project.
“The key decision lies with the people. While a railway can bring both opportunities and challenges, public consensus will determine whether the project moves forward,” he added.
