SHILLONG, April 29: The MDCs of the National People’s Party in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) have expressed that they have no hand in filing a petition before the Court against the MoU signed by the two Chief Ministers.

Clarifying on this, the Deputy Executive Chief Executive Member of the KHADC, Gigur Myrthong said that he is not a member of the Boundary Committee of the KHADC, but his presence at the two meetings of the Boundary Committee is due to the absence of the Chief Executive Member, Titosstarwell Chyne.

He said that the KHADC has not decided to file a petition against the Memorandum of Understanding for the settlement of the border dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, but provisions have been allowed for the Himas and land owners to file a complaint before the Court if they have proper land deeds to verify their claim.

It may be reminded that the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Kongkal Sangma, who is also the National President of the National People’s Party (NPP) said that the decision of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to approach the Court is a decision that has been taken by a few MDCs and not the MDCs of the NPP.

The MDC of the NPP from Umroi who is also the Executive Member, Rangkynsai Kharbuki said that the decision to file a complaint before the Court has not been taken by the Executive Committee of the KHADC, but the KHADC has clearly stated that if there is a dissatisfaction with the agreement then they can approach the Court. He said that the MDCs of the NPP in the KHADC unconditionally support the decision of the Government with regard to the border resolution with Assam.
