Following the circulation of a video showing a scuffle between a group of youths and members of the Bouncer Association of Meghalaya (BAM) on the evening of November 15 at the Cherry Blossom Festival, the youths involved came forward on Thursday to clarify the incident and make amends.
One of the youths explained that the clash was not initially with BAM members or volunteers. The altercation started with a separate group that began causing trouble. When BAM members stepped in to stop the fighting, a misunderstanding occurred, leading the youths to mistakenly target BAM members, who were only trying to ensure the event’s safety.
In a gesture of reconciliation, Junestar Kharbuli, President of BAM, praised the youths for their courage in coming forward to apologise. He welcomed their willingness to acknowledge their mistake and expressed optimism about their readiness to work alongside BAM for future peaceful events.
Kharbuli also said that attendees of any festival or program should feel safe and happy under the supervision of BAM, encouraging a sense of trust and security at public gatherings.
