Khliehriat: In a tragic road accident, a woman lost her life while two others sustained injuries after a coal-laden truck overturned and rammed into a Maruti vehicle at Byndihati in East Jaintia Hills district on the evening of March 4, 2026, at around 8 pm.
The deceased has been identified as Ester Liting, a resident of Khimusniang in Jowai. The two injured persons, believed to be her husband and sister, were travelling with her in the vehicle when the incident occurred.
According to sources, the truck carrying coal was on its way to unload at a factory when it suddenly lost control, overturned and crashed into the Maruti car carrying the three occupants.
A gypsy vehicle was also reportedly damaged in the accident.
Local residents quickly rushed to the spot and helped rescue the victims using a local stretcher before transporting them to Khliehriat Hospital for treatment. However, Ester Liting succumbed to her injuries.
Police have taken up the case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
