The Hima Nongmynsaw Syiemship, led by Syiem Phlowing Syiem Nongbah, has declared strong opposition to Assam’s attempts to construct roads in disputed border areas, demanding that the boundary issue be settled first before any developmental work is undertaken.
A delegation of Hima leaders, including Secretary Johnes Sohshang, Joint Secretary Donbok Snaitang, and village representatives such as Sankiu R. Marak (Headman of Noapara), submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, affirming their stand.
The Hima alleged that Assam has repeatedly violated the Status Quo agreement in the Langpih area and warned that from now on, villagers will actively resist. Trasdinglan Nonglang, headman of Mawsikar, said Assam’s actions amount to disrespect towards Meghalaya and vowed strong opposition: “We will chase them away if they come again. Boundary first, development later.”
