Totosstarwell Chyne, Working President of the United Democratic Party (UDP), acknowledged that while the emergence of a new political party can reduce the vote share of other parties, but it does not solely impact just one party.
In response to questions about the Voice of the People’s Party (VPP), which will contest the MDC election for the first time, Chyne noted that its effect on other parties remains uncertain. He stated that elections will take place in every constituency and voters will consider not only the party affiliation but also the candidate as an individual.
Regarding the upcoming MDC elections, Chyne stated that all political parties will aim to secure MDC seats, although he could not predict how many will succeed.
Discussing the UDP’s preparations for the MDC elections, he revealed that the party is actively seeking candidates, having already shortlisted about 18 candidates for the KHADC. Whereas, for the JHADC election, the party has already selected its candidates in East Jaiñtia; what remains now is the selection in West Jaiñtia, he added. He also mentioned that the UDP plans to announce its candidates for the General Council in December.
