Shillong: The Hills State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) Youth Wing has urged the State Minister in charge of Arts and Culture, Sanbor Shullai, to upgrade the District Library in Nongstoin into a District Multi-Convention Centre.
In a representation submitted to the Minister, the HSPDP highlighted the pressing need for a multipurpose convention and community centre that can cater to the diverse requirements of the people of West Khasi Hills district.
The party stated that upgrading the existing library would help promote arts and culture, create greater opportunities for youth, and provide benefits to students, artists, youth organisations, and the general public. It would also serve as a dedicated study space for students who lack proper facilities to prepare for various examinations.
The HSPDP further appealed to the Minister to allocate the necessary funds and support through the Arts and Culture Department and to include the project in the State’s annual plan for the financial year 2025–2026
