Two Years Into Marriage, Woman Faces Repeated Abuse; Miscarraige Four Times by Husband

HEADLINES

The Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW), led by Chairperson Iamonlang Syiem and her team, visited a 26-year-old woman admitted at Shillong Civil Hospital after allegedly being assaulted by her husband.

Speaking to the media, Chairperson Syiem stated that the victim has been subjected to repeated abuse over the past two years of marriage by her much older husband. Reports suggest that the woman has been assaulted multiple times and has been pushed into a river on at least four occasions.

The most recent incident came to light after the couple’s five-year-old child informed the maternal grandmother, who resides nearby, about the abuse. MSCW has expressed deep concern and condemned the incident, calling for greater public awareness and community support in addressing domestic violence.

“This is no longer just a family matter, but a serious societal issue,” said Syiem, urging community members to support victims and report cases of abuse. An FIR has been filed in the matter, and the Commission has assured it will follow up closely.
