Ri Bhoi, January 25: Two women lost their lives and a young girl sustained critical injuries after an Alto K10 car collided with a stationary truck along National Highway–6 at Mawdiangum village in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday evening.
The accident occurred at around 7 pm when the Alto K10 bearing registration number ML-05-Y-4464 rammed into a truck (AS-01-RC-5327) that was parked on the roadside. The impact of the collision caused extensive damage to the car.
According to eyewitnesses, the Alto crashed into the truck at high speed, leading to the tragic consequences. Apart from the two deceased women, a minor girl and the driver of the car also suffered injuries.
Police from Nongpoh rushed to the scene soon after the accident, provided emergency assistance, and shifted the injured to a hospital. The bodies of the deceased were also recovered and sent for necessary formalities.
Police have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
