Shillong — Two young women sustained grievous injuries after a Maruti 800 (ML05 J 4916) driven by Parmen M. Sangma lost control and rammed into them near NEHU Gate-II on the evening of 17 November 2025 around 7:50 PM.
The pedestrians, Miss Stephanie Shadap (22) and Miss Daritngen Ponduhkhei (20), were hit from behind, causing severe injuries. Both victims were immediately shifted to Civil Hospital Shillong and later referred to the ICU at Nazareth Hospital for specialised treatment.
Police confirmed that the driver was medically examined and found to have consumed alcohol at the time of the incident. The vehicle has been seized at Mawkynroh Outpost, and legal action is underway.
The incident has raised renewed concerns over drunk driving near educational institutions and heavy evening traffic in the NEHU area.
