Shillong: Two youths tragically lost their lives after falling into a deep gorge while chasing a helmet in Rapleng, East Khasi Hills.
According to reports, the incident occurred while the group was spending time on a hill. A scooty helmet accidentally rolled down into a gorge several hundred meters deep. In an attempt to retrieve it, the two youths ran after the helmet but slipped and fell into the gorge.
The deceased have been identified as Rishan Rani (23) and Ericfortis Kharkongkor (23), both residents of Langkyrding, Nongmensong, Shillong.
A third companion survived the incident, as he did not join in chasing the helmet.
The group had reportedly gone to the area for an outing on March 29.
The bodies were recovered today by the police S&RT team with assistance from local residents.
