Traffic to pass through Them Metor after six years

HEADLINES

Shillong: After six years, starting November 4, vehicles will once again be permitted to pass through Mawlonghat to Them Iewmawlong, which is currently the residence of the Harijan community.

According to a statement from the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, traffic will be allowed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The road from Motphran towards Mawlonghat and Them Metor Lane will operate as a one-way route, with vehicles permitted to travel from Motphran to Mawlonghat but not in the reverse direction.

The DC added that vehicles can be parked within the Motphran-Mawlonghat area; however, the bus parking area in Iewmawlong will be moved to the MUDA parking lot across from Anjalee Cinema. Vehicles, including buses heading to Them Metor, will be directed through Bimola.

Vehicles traveling from Mawlonghat to Anjalee Cinema Hall will need to pass through Old Cherra. Buses will turn from Grand Hotel Road to Boucher Road and will not be allowed on Khyndai Road.

Four STPS buses will operate between Jeep Stand and District Council without turning at Bimola, but smaller vehicles may proceed to Motphran and Grand Hotel.

No parking is allowed from Mawlonghat to Bimola, on both sides of Boucher Road, or from Grand Hotel/Umsohsun to Motphran point.
