SHILLONG, January 24: The Minister in charge of Sports and Youth Affairs in Meghalaya, Banteidor Lyngdoh said that the Government has already laid the foundation stone to renovate and repair the J.N Complex in Polo.
It may be pointed here that criticisms arose on social media over the disregard for the football grounds and race tracks of J.N Stadium, Polo used as parking spaces for the cars of government high officials including Ministers, government officers, and police officers on the 21st of this month when the Golden Jubilee celebration of Statehood was held.
Banteidor Lyngdoh stated that people who are uninformed may perhaps have a right to criticize and said that the Government has allocated up to ₹34 crores for the renovation and repair of the J.N Complex with the artificial turf being removed and natural grass being planted in its place and to develop the seating area of spectators, changing rooms of athletes as well as the race tracks.
With regards to the program of Meghalaya Day celebration at the ground, he said that there had already been an arrangement made to start the renovation process after the celebration and it is for this reason that the Sports Department along with the Government had decided to use the ground with no intention to destroy it.
He informed that the artificial turf placed is about to reach its expiry period but the department will not waste it but will reuse the turf in some other place for the benefit of young athletes.
